The more members are in an organization, the more difficult to handle their everyday IT problems. One of the most common IT issues is forgotten passwords. A study last year found out that 57% of users had to go for password reset of their work account in the last 90 days. What organizations can do relieving their IT team and saving money is using Microsoft Azure AD Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) feature.
Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) is an Azure AD feature that enables users to reset their passwords without contacting IT staff for help. This ability reduces help desk calls and loss of end-user productivity when a user cannot sign into their device or an application.
Besides allowing users to reset their expired or non-expired passwords without contacting an administrator or helpdesk for support, Azure AD can provide additional information on your SSPR performance through audits and reports. Password Writeback feature allows management of on-premises passwords and resolution of account lockout though the cloud, while password management activity reports give administrators insight into password reset and registration activity occurring in their organization.
When SSPR is enabled, users can only reset their password if they have data present in the authentication methods that the administrator has enabled. Authentication method can be phone number, text message, email, notification or code in their authenticator app, security questions. Password policy is checked when Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) is used to change or reset a password in Azure AD to make sure the new password meets the policy requirements that provide the necessary security.
Using Self-Service Password Reset reduce cost with significant decrease of IT helpdesk calls, also the cost of time lost due to forgotten passwords and lockouts. SSPR provides better user experience because by offering an intuitive one-time user registration process that allows users to reset passwords and unblock accounts on-demand from any device or location. SSPR also enables enterprises to access the security and flexibility that a cloud platform provides. Administrators can change settings to accommodate new security requirements and roll these changes out to users without disrupting their sign-in. Organizations’ business systems remain secure through all this because robust audit logs include information of each step of the password reset process. These logs are available from an API and enable the user to import the data into a Security Incident and Event Monitoring (SIEM) system of choice.
